Last Few Days of Paper Presents at GAM Gallery
The group show Paper Presents at GAM Gallery runs until the end of this week, closing on Saturday, December 20.
The show is full of beautiful, affordable pieces that really show off Vancouver’s unique pool of artists. We are very lucky to be included in such amazing company.
GAM’s hard-working and devoted curators, Julia and Tarah, have put together a slick catalog of the works: http://www.theoctopusclub.com/paperpresents/
Gallery hours for this week are :
- Thursday from 11 am – 5 pm
- Friday and Saturday from 11 am – 6 pm.
Group Show at Gam Gallery
We have some pieces in a group show at the amazing new Gam Gallery in downtown Vancouver.
And it was a very nice surprise to find ourselves featured as a “dynamic duo” on the excellent local blog VANCOUVER IS AWESOME:
VIA is a great blog with a mandate to promote the best of Vancouver.
Sunshine Frere is a dynamo herself, having started the Papergirl Project which distributes fine art to the happy people.
There is also a write-up of the show, with lots of pics, at Scout (another blog that any Vancouverite should know about).
And here’s the promo for the group show at Gam Gallery: Paper Presents (Works on Paper)
The show is open until December 20, and there will be an opening event this Friday the 28th at 7pm.
Curators Tarah Hogue and Julia Kreutz run a beautiful gallery with working studio space in the back, and they have assembled a gorgeous show of local artists. We are honoured to be included.

At The Boulevard Café, UBC
Four of my recent sumi-e ink paintings are hanging at The Boulevard Café, 5970 University Boulevard at UBC.
They will be there until April, so I hope you get a chance to see them.
Two Interactive Views of Our Show at Kafka’s
An amazing Vancouver photographer, known for his mind-bending wide-angle views, came to shoot some panoramas of our show.

Now that you have a good view of the show, I can post my statement (Keith’s is on his site):
Heavy Lines
My work is usually representational, so I used the daily deadlines of a recent Thirty Days Project to challenge myself to work in abstraction. Selecting a few of those thirty pieces for further examination, I studied with a classic sumi-e teacher in Osaka to learn new brush and ink techniques in order to express them more completely.
The finished pieces are abstractions of real-world subjects and their simple, bold, dynamic lines belie the technical and physical demands involved in their creation.
Our Show at Kafka’s in Vancouver
We’re finishing up our work, getting ready to hang it tomorrow in time for the opening on Thursday, August 15.
My pieces are large, abstract works based on explorations from my Thirty Days Project work.
Keith’s pieces are all large-scale woodblock-style prints based on the “heavy sky” series he did during Thirty Days Project last November.
We would love to see any of you at our opening event on Thursday night, from 8pm, at Kafka’s Coffee and Tea, 2525 Main Street at Broadway.
I will be catering and Tim Gerwing will be playing his own amazing music, much of which will be based on his own Thirty Days Project work.
